20081208- update the script fixing the firefox2 compitable problem and the bug in "list" mode

20081206- update the script when new GoogleReader update (4th Dec 08) has broken this script

When reading articles in GoogleReader, how to share the nice articles to Twitter at a rapid? I made one GreaseMonkey script for that, and you can now.

The format of messages

[Tag] Title(Note) URL

The basic function

  • Tag\title\URL are received from articles in GoogleReader automatically. And you can edit them.
  • URL can be converted into tinyURL.
  • Before sending the messages, the words number will be counted.

The installation order

i. Install the browser - firefox
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/
ii. Install the plugin - GreaseMonkey
http://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/748
iii. Install this script
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/10169

The specification

1. the link “Share with twitter”

After installing the script, open GoogleReader. Below each article, one link “Share with twitter” is added in the toolbar.

2. one mini window

Click the link, one mini window will popup. There are four inputboxes: Title, Tags, URL, and Note. Tag\title\URL are received from articles in GoogleReader automatically. And you can edit them. If you want to talk about it yourself, please input in “Note”.

3. four buttons

  • Save - send the message to twitter
  • TinyURL - make the long url tiny. Once you click it, please wait the URL changing from “making urlurl tiny…” to one tiny url
  • Count - count the words’ number
  • Cancel - close the mini windows

4. the user authentication

When you send the first message, one authentication is required. Please use your registered username or email address as the username component.

5. show the messages shared

You can install the script here:

What a super extension! Is there any way you can incorporate the Snipurl api though? I’m not terribly happy with the tinyurl stuff (no features) and it is blocked in many Asian countries due to spam. Snipurl has more features anyway and is just a nicer thing to use as I can edit URLs if they break. Thanks!

The script no longer works as of today (when they just updated Google Reader with the new share function)–I live and die by this script! Can you *please* update it?

    Great script!

I’m having the same problem with the button, already mentioned above.

Also, since yesterday, It hasn’t been working. I guess is due to a Google Reader update.

I just found out about is.gd shortening url service (http://is.gd). It generates shorter url than tinyurl. They offer an API (http://is.gd/api_info.php). Would it be possible to use is.gb instead of tinyurl? In twitter every character counts ;-)

    Thanks!

FYI. Seems like the auth part of the script is broken with Firefox 3 on a Mac. Might be a GreaseMonkey thing, but for my first post the auth window does not show up. Expose reveal it is there, but there is no way to get it on top to input the username and passwd.

Was curious about posting to different Twitter accounts. I have four twitter accounts that I use for different reasons. When I post my first Reader post, I get a login and choice for which account I would like to tweet to.

What do I need to do so that I can have that option every time. I’d like my browser to not remember which Twitter account I selected the previous time. Is this possible? Anyway, to keep that part of my cache clear so that I can do this?

I love this script. Thank you!

This is great! One question: is it possible to change the position of the popup window? For me it loads in bottom right, and I have to adjust position of browser window in order to access the buttons and see the whole thing. Thanks again!

    Hi

Great script thanks. I use it a lot. Like others i would like the option to post to different accounts.

The work around is to go to your twitter page http:/twitter.com/hone and log out of your account.

When you press the button the next time to save the message it will ask you to log in again and you can choose a new account.

Having said that the new gReader update (4th Dec 08) has broken this script. :-( Hope you can make an update it is really useful.

I will be happy to contribute.

All the best and thanks for your good work.

The twitter script doesnt seem to work on firefox 3.0.4
I do not see the twitter link/button after i updated the script

  31. terababy said,

    @Aravind
I tested it using the browser same with you. But it is ok. Do you using the latest version of Greasemonkey addon? My greasemonkey is 0.8.20080609.
Maybe some other scripts have some conflict with it. Can you leave the googlereader + twitter script alone and test it?

man this could best script if they added snurl/snipurl/snipr to the list of options. tinyurl is in the back of the line now since there are 0 tracking features to your shrunken links

@terababy can’t seem to get this working ever since Google revamped Reader. Using GM v0.8.2008.0609 - Any thoughts? (Firefox 3)
